YET HOW OFTEN

How I howl and rage inside!
Yet how often I must hold back
The flood of feeling
Of action,
And cool the kerosene
That runs within my veins.

How I yearn to scream my song!
Yet how often I must bite it,
That wild horse – truth –
That frantic one
That bucks the walls inside
Its cranium corral

How often I Don't Live Today!
Yet how often this morbid worm,
This bringer of light
Expiates my all
So that I lay it down
To let go my blue condition.
